A Spoonful of Sugar - August '15

Time for the August edition of The 12 Kits of Occasions!
Michele Ferguson, I Card Everyone, is our hostess this month with a delightful kit full of pretty paper, embellishments and get well wishes!

I got a rather late start on my kit this month with so much going on around the house between more unpacking and purging and getting things ready for my two kids to head up to Laurentian on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

I did manage to get a few cards together and hope that I can get even more made once the excitement of the week settles down.

Be sure to pop over to the 12 Kits blog so you can hop around to see the rest of the team!

The Card Concept Challenge #29

Time for another new challenge at The Card Concept!

This is officially my first on site vacation card and post.
Due to the events surrounding buying a new vehicle on my own in time to leave for our vacation there were a few cards/posts that did not get completed ahead of time as I had planned.

Arrive in Florida with three teenagers raring to go to the parks and shopping it has been a really fun and really busy vacation so far. We have enjoyed a few dinner's out, a full day at the Magic Kingdom and two full days of outlet shopping. Finally Tuesday night I had some time to finish off my card I started at home and write up my post. With the help of my iPhone, iPad and air drop I was able to snap a few shots of my card on my nightstand.

I was inspired by the fun colours of this challenges colours so I put together a get well card with colourful germs (Thank you Emily Leiphart).  Be sure to visit The Card Concept blog to see what the rest of the team has for your inspiration...

Tomorrow we are heading to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.
Have a great day I will be sure to share some photos once we get home.

CASE Study #149

Happy Thursday and time for another CASE Study challenge.  I am back for my second week as Guest Designer at the CASE Study blog where this month's Muse is Jocelyn Olson.  Jocelyn has another fabulous hybrid card for us this week that is tall and narrow and features a digital frame and photo.  See her inspiration card below.

I was inspired to make a tall narrow card as well but with s stamped image instead of a photo, I also followed her design having the focal image at the top and the sentiment at the bottom. I created a partial frame using one of the rod images from my stamp set. I also used pink, for me any reason to use pink is a good reason.

I would love to see how Jocelyn's card inspires you. Join us over at the CASE Study Challenge Blog and play along with us too.  Have a wonderful day!

CCC #42

Happy Tuesday and time for this week's CASology Cue Card!  This week the Cue for this week is:

It is okay to pop up a layer to add interest to a CAS design. For my card this week there is actually three layers--one stamped (the leaves), one die cut adhered directly to the card base (purple flower) and one popped up (aqua flower).  The is still lots of white space to allow the design to breath.

Head on over to CASology today to learn what the 'cue card' means to you, how you can play along and see the all the cards created by the Design Team to inspire you.

I am also submitting this project to the Simon Says Anything Goes challenge.
Check back in this afternoon for a bit of news.

All supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted.

Stamps: Happiness in Bloom, Turning a New Leaf, Think Big Favorites #14
Ink:  Winter Wisteria, Aqua Mist (PTI) Memento Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko)

DD #48

This week at Dynamic Duos the colours are Soft Blue and Deep Orange.  At first you might think they would clash but they actually are quite sweet together.

I created a shaped card this week, partly because I was going to use a tiny image and sentiment and I wanted to shrink the white space down a bit and party because they are so cute.

I die cut two large scallops in blue and the same size circle in white.  I stamped the scene first then I embossing using the Swiss Dots embossing folder to mimick the rain.  Not sure if I like that or not.  I would love to know what you think?

To hinge the card I used a trick I learned in Clean & Simple Card Making 2, to score a 1/2" of the scallop that will be the back and glue it to the front.  I also cut a bit off the bottom of the back so that the card would stand without rocking over.

All supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted.

Cardstock:  White, Spring Rain
Stamps: Pretty Ptches Umbrella (WPlus9), Love Lives Here (PTI)
Ink:  Smokey Shadow, Orange Zest, Spring Rain
Dies: Scalloped Circles and Circles (Spellbinders)

Pattern Play Day #3

I have some more homework to share from Day 3 of Pattern Play.

Day 3 lessons were on how to tackle big and bold patterns.  Kristina taught the technique of cutting the paper and spacing it out to soften the look.  For my first card I adhered the paper strips to a piece of complimentary cardstock and for my second card I used a piece of co-ordinating patterned paper for my background. A fun technique but spacing out my patterned strips wasn't as easy as it looked.

Cardstock:  White , Vintage Cream, Limeade Ice (Papertrey Ink)
Patterned Paper: Egg Drop Soup (Jillibean)  Marrakech Masala Bella (Basic Grey)
Stamps: Heart-2-Heart #3 (Papertrey Ink) Sunnier Days (Simon Says Stamps)
Ink:   Summer Sunrise, True Black (Papertrey Ink)
Dies: Fabulous Frames (Papertrey Ink)

CCC #18 - ORANGE

Ready for another cue card from CASology?  This week's CASology Cue Card is:

Sadly we are getting into the winter cold season again and I always like to have some get well cards on hand to cheer someone back to health.  My take this week on the colour orange is orange juice!  Out came my 'Make Lemonade' Lawn Fawn mini stamp set and my Copics.

I used some orange patterned paper as my background and then stamped my image and sentiment on white.  After I coloured the image using two shades of orange I scored lines above and below the sentiment and then used partial embossing to emboss only the top portion of the card.  Finally I added Stickles to the ice cube for interest.

Head on over to CASology today to learn what the 'cue card' means to you, how you can play along and see the all the cards created by the Design Team to inspire you.

colourQ #153

Time for another gorgeous palette at the colourQ.  Week after week I am amazed at the colour schemes that Arielle puts together along with a fantastic inspiration photo.  Aren't these pajamas so cute?

I had been looking for a reason to use my Mega Gracious Vases dies from Papertrey Ink.  So I cut them out in all the colours and played around until I found a combination that worked for me.  I hope it is just a bad time but I seem to be needing far too many get well cards lately.  What I am hoping is that this puts a smile on to someones face really soon.

This week I translated the colours into Melon Berry, Harvest Gold, Dark Chocolate and Spring Rain.

Be sure to visit the colourQ and see what the rest of the Design Team has come up with to inspire you. We hope you come and play with us this week!

CCC #8 - Relax

Can you believe we are at week #8 at CASology?  Wow time is sure flying by fast.  We are adding a new twist this week with our Cue Word, something a little different, something that will get you thinking.  This week's Cue Word is:

If I haven't told you before I work with the most amazing group of girls at CASology!  All of them so incredibly talented and fun to play with.  This week we had a bit of a chuckle.  We had a 'great minds think alike' moment when we realized that a few of us grabbed the same stamp set for this week's inspiration! The fun part of it is that we each took a different approach with it.  We hope you find something to inspire you to come and join us this week at CASology.  Here is my card:

When I create a CAS card, I will usually have a mat of some kind.  It could be white on white or it could include multiple colours.  You can be sure my mat with work with the rest of my card.  This week I prepared my mat and then decided that the card looked a bit plain.  So I broke out my Fabulous Frames dies and chose the Polaroid frame to house my focal image.  I die cut the space for my sentiment at the bottom of the frame so it didn't get too bulky.

Most of my cards tend to be very CAS so I like to pick versatile stamp sets.   If I am spending my money on stamp sets I want to be able to use it again and again without my cards always looking the same.  The fun thing with On My Couch by Papertrey Ink is that it features both a chair and a couch that can be stamped as an outline, a pattern or a solid.  Outline stamps are excellent to stamp on and cut from patterned paper, or coloured in with Copics and even left alone for 3 very different looks.  Pattern stamps can be stamped in any colour you choose and the same with solid stamps.  I try to think of my options before making a purchase.

Head on over to CASology today to learn what the `cue card`means to you, how you can play along and see the all the cards created by the Design Team to inspire you.
