Papertrey Ink Blog Hop - August

It's time for another Papertrey Ink Blog Hop.  I hear it from everyone, where has this summer gone?  It has been an incredible summer, is has been super hot here is Southern Ontario.  Records high temperatures all of July, in fact this has been the hottest recorded summer ever.  I know that most of the U.S. had a similar summer.  It hasn't ended yet, the temperature is still in the high 80s most days, we broke 90 on Friday.  My kiddos are back to school next Tuesday and are very fortunately that their school, which is only 3 years old, is air conditioned.

However, being the end of August fall is just around the corner.  Time for cooler temperatures, beautiful changing leaves and Thanskgiving on October 8th.  This month's Blog Hop which is Autumn Textiles.  My herringbone stamps and Impression Plate haven't arrive yet so I decided to work with burlap and tried stamping on burlap for the first time.  I really love the way it turned out.  Here are the inspiration photos.

Cardstock: Ripe Avocado
Stamps: Turning a New Leaf, Friend Jar Fillers Autumn

Papertrey Blog Hop - February 25 & Play Date Cafe Challenge 120

It time for another Papertrey Ink Blog Hop.  During the release this month Papertrey introduced a series of dies for creating interactive cards, easily.  The dies introduced were for creating the following types of cards:  poppers, sliders, spinners and zippers. The challenge for this month's Blog Hop was to create an interactive card.  My Papertrey order hasn't reached me yet but I still wanted to play along.  Using my Silhouette I downloaded a circle shape for making a pop-up card.  My niece just turned 17 and I wanted to make a card for her that wasn't too grown up or too childish but still fun.

I am also entering this card into this weeks Play Date Cafe challenge that features an awesome colour palette of baby blue, orangesicle and basil.

All Supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted:

Cardstock: White, Aqua Mist, Summer Sunrise, Spring Moss
Stamps: Make a Wish
Ink: Aqua Mist, Summer Sunrise, Spring Moss
Dies: By the Numbers, Make a Wish, Filigree, Ric Rack

Papertrey Blog Hop - January 25

Its time again for another Papertrey Ink blog hop.  Wow this month has gone fast.  The challenge this month was to pick our favourite project from 2011 and share it as well as to take inspiration from that project and create something new.

I went through my cards and posts and reflected on the past year and pulled two cards that I created for the Papertrey Blog Hop on May 25 2011.  See the original post HERE.  I decided to put a Valentines spin on my new cards--I love pink.

The next two cards are my original cards from the May Blog Hop.

I chose Sweet Blush, Raspberry Fizz and Hibiscus Burst from Papertrey for my colour palette.  Each layer is bumped up with foam dots--loving these lately.

When I was making this next card I had the flower with the Hibiscus Burst Flowers on the left (outside) of the card.  It didn't look quite right and I started thinking that I had the colours wrong--Raspberry Fizz and Hibiscus Burst are very close.  My 17 year old son is a very good artist and has a very keen eye for design.  He was walking by and I asked him to look at my card and discussed that maybe the colours weren't right.  He looked and was very quiet, then swapped the Hibiscus Burst and Raspberry Fizz flowers and then it just looked right!  He said now it had radial perspective.  Off he went, love that kid.

All Supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted:

Cardstock: White, Sweet Blush, Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst
Stamps:  Sending You, Love & Marriage, Flower Fusion #6
Dies: Beautiful Blooms II #1, Heart Prints
Ink: Raspberry Fizz, Spring Moss, Tuxedo Black (Memento)
other: foam dots

I can't forget what my daughter completed for geography Monday night.  We are at the end of semester 1 and heading into exams.  So stress levels are high, especially for her as this is her first run at exams.  So her ISU was to create a trip across Canada.  We have done this trip over two trips so she had a lot of personal input. A job well done.

A Year in Review - Blog Hop

Karin Martin at "With an "i" For Paper" is hosting a Year in Review Blog Hop.  In keeping with the spirit of the season it is a chance to look back and highlight some of your favorite projects from the past year.  At the bottom of my post there is a link to Karin's blog that outlines the prizes and rules to play along.  For me this represents my first year of blogging.  I began "In My Creative Opinion" January 2011 so this is a chance for me to reflect on my first year.

Join in the fun!

Happy New Year!

Papertrey Blog Hop - December 26

The traditional "Papertrey Ink Holiday Leftovers Challenge" is being held this month on the 26th.  The focus is to use the wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, tags, canceled postage from holiday cards you have received, photos from holiday cards and anything else you might have laying around after the holiday preparations have ended. The challenge is to use some type of leftover materials to create a project.

I had so much fun doing my 25 days  of Christmas Tags this year and ended up with a basket of holiday tags ready to go.  Of course by the time my family finished up their wrapping there was not much left in the basket.  However thanks to blogging I have a permanent record of all 25 tags.

My husband used Tag # 9 for a gift for me, wrapped it in a beautiful green foil paper from Peir 1 and topped it with a beautiful clear bow with green trim.  I was so awed by this I took a quick picture (my family thinks I am pretty much nuts).

For my card I started with Vintage Cream cardstock, adhered the wrapping paper, used my Tim Holtz foam applicator to distress the edges of the card (note: I should have done this before adhering the wrapping paper), trimmed the tails on the tag and adhered the tag with foam dots boosting the tree on the tag up another level.

So for the challenge I couldn't let this lovely memory end up in the trash so I made a card.  My first one for next year.

All Supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted:

Cardstock: Vintage Cream, Kraft, Spring Moss
Stamps: Winterberry, Winter Penguin, Tag Its #9
Dies: Tag Sale 3, Winterberry
Ink: Ripe Avocado, Fresh Snow (PTI), Tuxedo Black (Memento), Shabby Shutters (Ranger), Creamy Brown (Clearsnap)
Other:  Ripe Avocado ribbon, gemstones (Doodlebug), green foil wrapping paper
