The 12 Kits of Occasions - April'14

Welcome to the 12 Kit of Occasions April kit post!

We are so sad to say goodbye to Christina , but right  now she is putting her family first as all of us should.  She will be missed but not forgotten. I have said it before but she was my first blog crush with her fabulous sense of design!

Jeanne Jachna was our hostess this month and what a kit she sent out to us.  I could have easily made 20 cards and not used all the supplies up. Beautiful floral paper from Basic Grey Floral Cut perfect for birthday cards and Mother's Day. I have never seen so many gorgeous die cuts.  Jeanne has two guest designers joining us this moth, Erin Theim and Nancy Penir. Here are my cards for this month and there is a special announcement down at the bottom of the post.  Happy Hopping!

For this next card I used sketch #19 from Seize the Sketch.

Happy Tuesday and time for this week's new colour palette at the colourQ!

I love these colours together, honestly I think that Calypso Coral may very well be one of my favourite colours--well at least today ;)

My card this week uses patterned paper, a die cut, twine and sequins but still has the integrity of CAS design because they are all used in smaller portions. I created my glow by inking a sponge daubber and pouncing it over the light bulb that had been stamped with Memento ink to reduce the risk of smudging.

1.  One main image--lantern
2.  Lots of open space - mini scene on small panel
3.  Limited layers & embellishments--twine and sequins
4.  Quick & easy to recreate

Head on over to CASology today to learn what the 'cue card' means to you, how you can play along and see the all the cards created by the Design Team to inspire you.

Pretty Pink Posh Shaker Blog Hop

Paulina Nakamura, owner of Pretty Pink  Posh, is hosting a huge Sequin Shaker Blog Hop.
There are lots of fabulous prizes to be won from some amazing sponsors.
You still have one more day to enter the hop!

I had so much fun doing my card for this, until the sequins were sticking to the inside.  I basically took the card apart and re-did it.  It still sticks a bit but most of the sequins are still shaking around.  I learned a few things to do the next time and a few things NOT to do. I think something fun like this was just what I needed to help me get out of the creative funk I have been in these past few weeks.  I used some sequins from the Sweetheart Mix for my card.  Enjoy the hop!

Sunday we went up to see where my son is doing his co-op this summer and where he is living.  He is already having a fabulous time and loving his placement. It also doesn't hurt that he is staying with his girlfriend's family this summer and that her mom is spoiling him.  We also were given a tour of a 6.5 million dollar cottage! Not kidding, my mouth is still hanging open!

Here today with a new challenge from CAS-ual Fridays!
It is all about thirds!  Use three of something on your card.  Your can use three images, three elements, three colours...but here is the catch.  Only on one third of your card and of course keep your creations cleans and simple.

I used Wish Big and Exclamations for my card. I scored at the top of card and made a base line for my images with a score line.  This really helps when you are lining up a stamped pattern.  I stamped my three images, in three different colours, and then scored another line under the images after I had stamped them.  I stamped and gold embossed the ah-mazing sentiment from Exclamations over the top of the three images!  Finishing the card off with three sequins, in three matching colours!  All the excitement happens in the top third of my card.  Doesn't it sound fun?

I am also submitted this to this week's Simon Say Wednesday Challenge - Keep It Clean and Simple!

You have until May 23rd to play along with this challenge.
We can't wait to see what you do!

MIM #161: Watercolor Splats

IMG_4445

Happy Friday, I didn't want the week to pass without trying the current Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Technique: Watercolor Splats.  I made a panel blending Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, Orange Zest and Summer Sunrise and cut out three butterflies from it.  The first one was technique gone badly, but I kept the other two.  The first one was also the one that captured all of the colours.

Runway Inspired Challenge #58 and CAS(E) this Sketch #73

IMG_4441

I have a card to share today for two challenges, Runway Inspired Challenge and CAS(E) this Sketch.  This is my first time playing along with the Runway Inspired Challenge. I have to admit that this challenge has always intimidated me.  I told Virginia Lu that last year when I met her and she said "what do you have to lose"?  Well here we are almost a year later and now I am being brave!  LOL

I was so inspired by the colours in the runway look. I love the black against the vibrant orange and red. I started by cutting a large circle and then stamping the argyle pattern on it with VersaFine Onyx Black.  I die cut the butterfly from a piece of white cardstock that I had inked with Distress Inks. I added the butterfly trail and popped up the butterfly.

It's time for a new Cue Card at CASology!
This week's word is:

This week I created a tag instead of a card to show you that even tags can be CAS. I used a tag die from Lil' Inkers and stamps from the newly released Pretty Petals from Clearly Besotted. Ii stamped in Stampin'Up Pear Pizzaz and Crisp Cantaloupe.
