Sharing a card made for this week's Muse Christmas Vision where my friend Stephanie Klauck is the guest designer using Laurie Willison's Masked Backgrounds technique that she shared in this week's Make It Monday Video.
This is Stephanie's fabulous card here:
I was inspired by Stephanie's use of a Distress Inked background and the silhouette image that extended beyond the background border. I created my mask using Post It tape and sponged two shades of Distress Ink--Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron. Then I flicked some water droplets on to the inked background. Once dry I stamped the Mistletoe image from Mistletoe and Holly using Jet Black Archival Ink and they finally added my sentiment. The last step was to add a sparkly mat to my masked background, another technique I have learned from Stephanie. Here is the finished product and another card for my Christmas card stash:
I have been in love with white on white for a while now and this 'technique' can be used for just about any stamp and die set. It makes a quick and easy card!
Using one of my favourite coffee sets and dies...
I am on a bit of a butterfly kick these days, so I created a little ombre one for this next card. The butterfly in covered completely in Wink of Stella which really gives it a magical look IRL!
Wednesday I drove my son up to Muskoka to start his summer job today. He will be staying at his girlfriend's parents house again this summer. So he has a surrogate Mom for the summer who definitely spoils him--LOL. Driving up there we went through all types of weather--sun, rain, hail, snow and then repeat! I know that we are not the only place in North America that has and is having crazy weather this year. Honestly I do not ever remember seeing snow at the end of April.
When we got home it was sunny, then cloudy and then it started snowing here! Just a couple week's ago the Robin's started to appear and I thought spring was finally here. I had to video tape this out my kitchen door today, the poor thing probably wondering what the heck what happening...
Happy to report that Brooklyn got a phone call on Tuesday from the Home Depot about 20 minutes from here that they had her driver's license and some of her other cards that they found on the property when doing some spring clean up the other day. We went to the store and the manager had her license, her debit card, her Social Insurance Card and her Employee card. Most of them we have already set the wheels in motion to replace but we are really happy to report that her ID is not floating around out there. She was happy to receive these items back but angry that someone thought so little of a person's ID to just throw it away, another tough lesson to learn.
I hope that spring finally found you on the weekend. It finally hit here, sunny and warm. Not T-shirt and shorts kind of warm but so much better than the last 6 months have been.
My card this morning is for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday. Laurie Willison demonstrated ombre inking using regular dye ink pads. Her butterflies were so gorgeous I knew I had to try the technique out just like hers, Nothing original!
On the Weekend I headed up to Sudbury to go to the Open House at the Architecture Studio for Ben. It is always a thrill to go up there and hear the kids buzzing about what they did and what the they are doing next.
I managed to get a rare shot of Ben and I together, I don't remember him getting that tall!
Their big project this year was to create a bridge and venue at the old existing train station in Sudbury. So the years projects basically all hinged around it. This is an outdoor kiosk that Ben designed for the venue. The topic of discussion this year was sustainability--how people and culture and nature can exist in harmony. The course focus was on ecology and architecture.
This is Ben's drawing for his bridge and the model to the left is actually a huge muilti level shopping mall that is made up of shipping containers that are the actual stores! The concept is that the shops can be reconfigured, moved around and come and go--a glimpse into the future of retail.
The trip to Sudbury is roughly 9 hours round trip! I told you the other day I drove halfway to Ben's girlfriends parent's home and they drove the rest of the way! On the way home we stopped and had dinner with Ben's girlfriend's aunt, Dawna, who will be Ben's boss again this summer.
He is going back to Lakehouse Cabinery again, if you want to see some gorgeous furniture have a peak at their website. Ben actually took part in building a lot of these pieces last summer. My card on it's way to Dawna to thank her for dinner.
I am up in the wee hours of the morning because I don't think I can fall asleep.
Brooklyn left tonight for her trip to Italy and Greece. Don't get me wrong I am so thrilled that she has this incredible opportunity to travel in her senior year. She did not have to be to the school until 5:30 pm Friday evening to board the bus for the airport. Their flight to Rome left at 11:30 pm Friday night. So after a whirlwind of a week I am of course worried and my mind can't quite shut off. I have some pictures to share below.
This was the perfect opportunity to do this week's Make It Monday Watercolor Smooshing!
These girls have gone all the way through school together since second grade.
Waiting to get on the bus and it was freezing.
81 kids heading to Rome!
Sent from the airport!
I'll rest better once I get the call they are on the ground.
I made card by die cutting the leaves in white and using Distress Inks to shade. Then I used the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #184: Dip Die Cuts technique taught by Danielle Flanders. I added gold dip to all my die cuts. Dimension was added with foam tape to the Maple leaf and the acorn. These were added to a white woodgrain embossed card base.
I don't seem to have enough time these days for things, but after the watching Danielle Flanders Make It Monday video I knew I wanted to make a non border die border. A process that started last night was complete in time to photograph outside with perfect lighting and no wind!
I used Oopsie Daisy for my non border die, CASE-ing my own card HERE and inspired by the colours and card by Melissa Bickford HERE.
Some of you are aware that I attempted to make a salad with my finger earlier this week, and I am happy to report that huge finger band aid is off and I am sporting regular band aids now. Sorry rambling now, anyway when I was almost finished my card and was tying the twine, the band aid was getting in the way. So I took it off and tied the bow. I was looking at my card when it was done and how did I get ink on the card! Followed by, I didn't use red ink! Ack! Just a teeny tiny spot and on all places--the no border die panel! White gel pen to the rescue!
Happy Friday, I didn't want the week to pass without trying the current Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Technique: Watercolor Splats. I made a panel blending Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, Orange Zest and Summer Sunrise and cut out three butterflies from it. The first one was technique gone badly, but I kept the other two. The first one was also the one that captured all of the colours.
I haven't done a Make It Monday in a while but I wanted to try this technique because the results look so pretty. This week's technique was coloured vellum flowers. I knew that I wanted to try it out with the Peony images from Pretty Peonies. The only vellum I have has little flecks of gold in it, so I hope it doesn't look like dirt or ink on the flowers. Embossing was a bit hot on the fingers but the results were amazing. Now after I had trouble lining up the Peony on the die cut, then colouring both flowers I realized that I had the die upside down. I didn't have any more vellum so therefore my card ends up truly unique. LOL I also wanted to tie this into this week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge to have something go over the edge. Here is my card.

I can see how addictive this is going to be. Stamping on to pillow boxes gives you the flexibility to customize your gift to any occasion. With Valentines just around the corner a pillow box is the perfect size to slip a treat, a gift card or even a little gift. Who wouldn't love to get one of these on Valentines with a charm for your Pandora bracelet inside? Oh how I wish hubby could stamp. All kidding aside creating this box was easy and so much fun.
