Studio Tour - August 2016

As promised, a studio tour!
I will warn you ahead of time that this is a photo heavy post.

We moved into our new home a year ago and the third bedroom on the main floor became my craft studio. It is situated right across from the front door when you come into the house, so the pressure is always on to keep it tidy. Well at least the part you can see when you enter the house--lol! Still a work in progress but I think that is half the fun!

I had the IKEA cabinets and shelving from my space in our old house that was in a u-shape, see HERE. Although this room is bigger I had to change the desks and book shelves around to accommodate the walls and the island my hubby bought me for Mother's Day so I could look out the window while I craft and have a friend come and visit. It is the Stenstorp kitchen island from IKEA.

I am going to move through the room starting from the left side. My three bookshelves are Billy from IKEA. I use them to store all my stamps dies, paper, embellishments and scrapbooks. I have been storing my stamps and dies 'Jennifer McGuire' style for a few years now. I sort alphabetically by Manufacturer, labelled and dies in behind the stamps. Stand alone dies are stored at the back of each manufacturer. The two bin on the top shelves overflowing with packages are all my leftover from 3+ years of the 12 Kits of Occasions. I use the white Michaels' photo boxes to store embellishments, twine, sequins and cards--all the boxes are labelled. A place for everything and everything in its place!

 





The first of two Rakog carts. They make me smile every time I walk into the room. On this one I have my ink blenders in the top tray in an acrylic nail polish tray which was an absolutely genius idea from Arydth Percy-Robb that she posted a couple months ago on Instagram. I am still organizing this cart but each tray has plastic bins from the dollar store that fit perfectly (credit to Stephanie Klauck for those). I keep my supplies in there for stamp storage and work in progress. Hanging off the shelves are caddy's also from IKEA with my Copic markers, stored by colour family. I just roll the cart over to my island when I need them.



The closet is actually over the stairs that go to the basement so it has some interesting features that I have to work around. I keep my wood block stamps, scraps, embossing supplies, inks, props and other supplies in these drawers. The far right bins and the bottom front bins store all my 12 x 12 patterned paper for scrapbooking. Each piece was purchased with something in mind and maybe one day I will get those layouts done!

My Island is awesome. A huge work area and a perfect view. The light and the desk mat are again from IKEA. My mini pink Lazy Susan is from Pottery Barn Kids and I keep my essentials in there--tape runner, scissors, glue, Wink of Stella pens, water bottle and bone folder.



The shelves at the back of the island have so much storage space. I haven`t taken the blue and white stripped protective cover off the shelves yet until I have decided exactly what I am going to store there.



My second Raskog cart! The top two trays have IKEA Antonius plastic baskets that fit perfectly and have five different shaped compartments for storage. I keep my mini inks, ombre inks, envelopes, Project Life cards, MISTI and my ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Markers are in two IKEA caddy`s hanging off the front and my heat gun sits in another hanging on the side. I always make sure my heat gun is cooled down completely before putting it away.



My display frame was given to me from a friend years ago, I believe it came from Winners.



The other side of the room has a long table top where I keep my Scan N Cut, large Pottery Barn Lazy Susan, acrylic blocks, Big Shot and Fiskar`s Paper Cutter. I have been hunting for a paper cutter that works as well, mine is getting a bit tired. I have a Tim Holtz Tonic mini guillotine and might take the plunge and get the larger one. Advice is welcome...

Above the desk is a floating shelf where I display recent happy mail and I have three glass bathroom jars that I keep my washi tape in.

Underneath the table top are two IKEA Alex cabinet units, two drawer units and a rolling file cart from the Container Store.



The drawers are so handy to keep supplies in. Top drawer most used inks--Memento, Versafine and Versamark, tape refills, embossing buddy, craft mat and foam tape.






All my messy stuff. Embossing paste, spray inks, Glossy Accents, Stickles, ink refils, mini daubers, Gelatos, watercolour powders and the kitchen sink--lol



Watercolour drawer Peerless, Gansai, Michaels and watercolour pencils.



Other supplies--baggies, Press n`Seal, usually a roll of paper towel at the back.



It you are still with me we are at the renovation wall! My studio that was a bedroom has an ensuite in it. Useful sometimes, but we do not have a washroom close too the front door, so that wall is getting closed off and the door is moving to the other side of the room so that we have the washroom off the front hall. When the happens the desk is being moved down and there will be a bit more adjusting. This is essentially my office area, the drawer unit contain all my office supplies--pen, pencils, a drawer dedicated to paper clips and Post It notes and tape all different sizes (yes I have an addiction) and all my labels  and personal files. There is one more Alex cabinet at the other end.
