Make It Monday #47: 2011 A la Carte & CR84FN45

My Dad turns 84 years young today.  If you were to meet him you wouldn't think he was a day over 60, if you asked him he would tell you he doesn't feel a day over 30.  Everybody always has and does love Frank, he is easy going and loves to joke around and my children think he is the smartest man they know.  My daughter will tell you that everything she knows she has learned from Grampa.  I combined Make It Monday techniques #31:Creating a Background with Non-Background Stamps and & #37:Layered Mats and Frames AND the colours from CR84FN45 to make him a birthday card.  This was definitely out of my comfort zone, at least the colour scheme was but it also proved to be an excellent choice for a masculine birthday.

All Supplies are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted:

Cardstock: White, Summer Sunrise, Blueberry Sky
Stamps:  Make a Wish, Tag Its #10
Ink: Summer Sunrise, Canyon Clay, Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Dies: Mat Stack 4, Limitless Layers 1 .75", Gift Card Greetings
other: foam dots

I love the orange and blue- I recently learnt they are complimentary colours. The stamped background looks fab and the mat frame too. A lovely card and present for a special person.

Happy Birthday to your dad. I love him already. Wonderful card and gift card holder. I was having trouble with this combo, until I tried it! You are making me regret that I sold those Make a wish stamps. They make a fabulous background.

Beautiful! Great job with the technique. Being a graduate from the University of Florida, I am quite fond of shades of orange and blue. Happy Birthday to your dad.

Great card! I like how the presents are stamped to blend with the background & not be a focal point.

Love these, Tracey. ;-) You sure made good use of the colors. I struggled with these a bit - not much of an orange or yellow fan - but you did great! Love how you used the gift boxes and bows for the background, and the accompanying gift card holder. Very nicely done. ;-)

And Happy Birthday to your sweet, special Dad! Sounds like a good man. ;-)

Love the contrasting colours! Blue and orange together bring out the best of both colours! Wonderful card!! I'm sure your dad will love his card :)

Fabulous use of the Make It Monday technique and I was having a hard time with those colors, but I love the bright and cheery combo.
