Clean & Simple Card Making 3 - Day 9

IMG_4063

I never thought that I would ever get so messy making a card or that it would be this much fun. My card is based on a card Debby Hughes created while she demonstrated creating textural effects.  It isn't perfect but I think I might do it again if I ever get all the sticky bits off my cutting mat! So many techniques--embossing, Copics, masking, paint splatter, Wink of Stella, embossing paste and stenciling.  Then of course i had to add a few sequins for balance. Definitely the most I have ever done to one card.  I have held off with the embossing paste trend, but I actually really like the texture and look of it.

Clean and Simple Card Making 3 - Day 7

Another card for Clean & Simple Card Making 3, Kristina Werner taught a lesson on Copic colouring on vellum. I used this technique to make my sun using shades of yellow. My sun rays didn't want to lay flat when the card was standing so I needed to glue the rays to the vellum from the front because I had already glued the back in place inside the card. I took a scrap strip of vellum and put dots of Tombow Multi glue on it and slid it under the rays--one at a time.  Maybe lazy but it worked.

Clean & Simple Card Making Day 5

Homework for Day 5 & 6 of Clean & Simple Card Making 3.  Laura Bassen taught a great technique using masking and ink blending. Laura must have incredible patience (have you seen her video using the Hero Arts triangle die?) and creative talent. I didn't have the Post It masking tape (on shopping list for tomorrow) so I tried the technique using washi tape. It works but I smudged! So I did it again, the second time the washi tape ripped the cardstock when I was pulling it off, I may have smoothed it one time too many. So back to the first card with the smudge. Hmm...do you like the pink arrow strip at the top and bottom? Not my idea of ideal CAS design (purest that I am), but it covered the smudge! I will definitely try this again with the Post It tape!

Clean and Simple Card Making 3 - Day 3

Back with another card for Clean and Simple Card Making 3. Today's lesson was Optical Illutions. The card I made was based on Laura Bassen's lesson on layered stamping.  I stuck pretty close to her sample because that is how I learn, I do it once just as it is taught and then like an elephant I will never forget--well at least I hope I won't.  I was happy with the results, but really I wish I had worked with solid images. Next time, because I will remember?

Clean and Simple Card Making 3 - Day 1

IMG_4027

Clean and Simple Card Making 3 is the latest class from on Line Card Classes, and like so many others right now I am a student.  So I am sharing my first card today from Day 1 Faux Effects and more specifically using Debbie Hughes faux layered die cuts.  I received my new Lawn Fawn goodies on Monday and broke out the dies to make a spring card.  It was spring here today with the temperature up to 9 C (48 F), the birds were chirping, spring coat on and so fun watching the boys across the road jumping the still pretty big snowbank on their driveway with their bikes in T-shirts.  Tonight though we bare down for another winter storm and temperatures to drop down to -18 C overnight and 10 - 15 cm of new snow.
