Teacher's Pet - August '17

...and with that summer vacation is over and it's back to school!

Time for The 12 Kits of Occasions August kit post. This month our hostess is the fabulous Lisa Elton and what a fun and timely kit she put together for the whole team. Complete with fabulous colours, patterns, die cuts and cute embellishments. I had a lot of fun playing with Lisa's kit keeping my daughter in mind. On Saturday morning we are heading up to Sudbury to move her into her new apartment on campus for year three of Continuing Education. Basically she is doing her Bachelor of Sociology and her Bachelor of Education at the same time. It is a 5 year program and she has three years to go. In the end she will be qualified to teach Kindergarten to Grade 7. So I made a few fun things with the kit to tuck into her bags to be found when she unpacks.

So let's get on to the projects...

This next one is also for the Color Throwdown #458, I was so excited to colour this in primary colours but this sweet little dress just had to be coloured in soft yellows.

SugarPea Designs Mix It Up #34

Time for another new Mix It Up challenge at SugarPea Designs! You have all month to play along with us, and each week several of our designers will share some fresh inspiration with their take on the challenge. Remember the more times you play along during the month, the better chance you have of winning a $50 gift certificate to our store!!!

This is my last post as a Design Team member at SugarPea Designs. The last year has been fun sharing my projects with you.

For my project today I started by choosing a piece of paper from the Spots & Stripes Brights patterned paper collection that was similar to the blue of the inspiration photo and mimics the stripes on the pillow. I masked and stamped my sentiment onto the patterned paper and they die cut the You from navy paper completing my sentiment. The knitting and ball of wool was stamped and die cut from the Knit Wit, Sugar Incentive, stamp set and Copic coloured green like the stripes in the inspiration photo. Those were adhered with foam tape for dimension. The sentiment and the knitting mimic the layout of the sketch. I finished it off with a wood veneer heart.

Survival Kit

Happy Tuesday.

I wanted to share a project that I made recently to give to my son. He just graduated from University in June with his Bachelor of Architectural Studies. He went back this summer to work with the architecture firm in Toronto that he did a co-op with last summer on a four month contract. They have offered him a full time position within the firm effective September 5th. Proud mama here.

I created a Survival Kit for him to put into his desk that is full of things that might just come in handy.

Inside:

contents:

Advil
Advil Cold & Sinus
Halls
NeoCitron
Gaviscon
Breath Mints
Dental Floss
Blister Band-Aids
and a Tide Stick

I made one of these kits for my hubby many years ago and he still uses it and refills it when supplies get low. A few things have been added over the years but he always tells me how much he appreciates having it. His was packaged in a small white lunch tin but I couldn't locate one quickly when I made up this kit for Ben.

SugarPea Designs Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks - Day 5

Welcome back to the SugarPea Designs  Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks!

Today is the last day of Sweet Peaks and the entire Summer Release will be available for you to purchase tonight, Friday, August 25th at 6:00 pm (EST).

Today the team is sharing inspiration from the Sweet Incentive stamp set from this release.

For my card today I started out by creating a background panel using Broken China Distress Oxide Ink and splattered it with water. I absorbed the excess water with paper towel and then cut the panel with a Zig Zag Stitched Rectangle SugarCut die. I stamped and white embossed the sentiment from the Knit Wit clear stamp set at the bottom of the panel. I stamped and Copic coloured four balls of yarn from the Knit Wit clear stamp set and then cut them out using the co-ordinating Knit Wit SugarCut dies. I adhered the balls of yarn to the zig zag panel using foam tape.

SugarPea Designs Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks - Day 4

Welcome back to the SugarPea Designs  Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks!

We are sharing Sweet Peeks of new products each day this week that will be available for purchase on Friday, August 25th at 6:00 pm (EST).

Today the team is showcasing three more new products we know you are going to love!

As soon as I saw the Mandala stamp I knew that I would be reaching for it again and again. The pattern is beautiful and the options are endless with it. For my first project today I stamped and white embossed the Mandala clear stamp onto a 4" square piece of white Bristol Smooth cardstock. Then I sponged Distress Inks in rainbow colours on an angle from the bottom right to the top left of the panel. Then I flicked some water onto the panel and absorbed the excess with paper towel to remove some of the ink and leave waterspots. Then I adhered the panel to a top folding 4.25" x 4.25" white card base. Next I die cut You using the new You SugarCut die from black cardstock. I stamped and white embossed a sentiment from the Sweet Sentiments - You clear stamp set also on black cardstock and trimmed the sentiment down. I adhered the You and nestled the sentiment underneath.

For my second card I stamped and white embossed the Mandala clear stamp onto a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I sponged three shades of Distress Oxide ink onto my panel and then I flicked some water onto the panel and absorbed the excess with paper towel to remove some of the ink. The properties of Distress Oxide ink will layer the colours, the ink does not absorb into the paper the same way it does with regular Distress Ink. So I took a tissue and wiped away some of the ink that was 'hiding' the mandala so that the brilliant white popped. I stamped my sentiment in the bottom right corner of the card with VersaFine ink. I had to allow my panel to dry well before adhering it to my card base.

SugarPea Designs Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks - Day 3

Welcome back to the SugarPea Designs  Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks!

We are sharing Sweet Peeks of new products each day this week that will be available for purchase on Friday, August 25th at 6:00 pm (EST).

Today the team is showcasing three more new products we know you are going to love!

I had so much fun creating this first Halloween card. I began by stamping and white embossing the cute ghost from Monster Mash clear stamp set in the upper left corner of a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of bristol smooth cardstock. Then I sponged my background using Fossilized Amber, Wilted Violet, Broken China and Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Inks. I sprinkled the panel with water and absorbed the excess up using a paper towel to remove some of the color. I used the new SpookyScape SugarCut die and cut a black strip to adhere along the bottom of my card. Before adhering I stamped and white embossed a sentiment from the Monster Mash clear stamp set.

tracey_Day3

For my second project today I created a set of tag that you could attach to a Halloween goodie bag that you hand out at the door. The cute images from the Monster Mash clear stamp set are just perfect for the occasion. I first die cut four With Love Tag SugarCut tags with black cardstock. Then I die cut four of the smallest circle from the  Zig Zig Stitched Circle SugarCuts from orange cardstock and stamped the 'trick or treat' sentiment from Monster Mash. Once I had those first two tasks done and set aside I stamped four images from Monster Mash and coloured them with Copic markers. I used the coordinating Monster Mash SugarCut dies to cut out the images and then adhered them to the tags and added the orange circles with foam tape. A small paper clip will be used to attached the tag to the treat bags.

SugarPea Designs Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks - Day 2

Welcome back to the SugarPea Designs  Fall 2017 Product Release Sweet Peeks!

We are sharing Sweet Peeks of new products each day this week that will be available for purchase on Friday, August 25th at 6:00 pm (EST).

Today the team is showcasing two more new products we think you are going to love!

I had some fun with this new set making a set of tags and a card. I love giving packages of handmade  cards wrapped in glassine bags to friends and family. The Make with Love clear stamp set and the With Love SugarCut tag are the perfect combination to finish off the gift. I die cut four of the With Love Tag SugarCut tags and then stamped each tag with sentitments and the heart image from the Made with Love clear stamp set in four different colours. I added some black and white baker's twine and attached them to the package with a mini clothespin

tracey_Day2

For my second project today I created a card using both the With Love Tag SugarCut tag, the Made with Love clear stamps and pastel green striped paper from the Pastels Patterned Paper Collection. I started with a white square top folding card base that was 4.25" x 4.25" and then die cut a piece of pastel green striped paper from the Pastels Patterned Paper Collection using the largest circle from the Zig Zig Stitched Circle SugarCuts. Then I cut a tag from the With Love Tag SugarCut and stamped the sentiment in black and the sewing machine in coral. I attached a button twine bow and adhered it to the card with foam tape.
