Friday Wrap Up

Well Friday is finally here, which for me is good and bad.  Good because the crazy busy week is over, bad because tonight will be the last night Ben will be home as we know it.  It seems like only yesterday we were packing his backpack for pre-school!

Now packing everything for university!

My post today is more a personal post than a crafty post. So I will be back the next three days with crafty posts for Dynamic Duos, The 12 Kits of Occasions and the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge.

There were so many things to gather up and buy this week before we pack it all up and take him tomorrow to Sudbury to start the next phase of his life!  This week Ben and I have been shopping at Staples, Home Outfitters, Target, Walmart, Dollarama, Costco, the mall for clothes--the list goes on but I think we finally have it all together.  Now he and his dad need to pack up the car for an early morning departure.

For most of Ben's teen years I complained that technology and social media were actually very anti-social, but now I am embracing it.  We can talk, text, Facebook, Facetime, tweet (yes I actually will tweet with him) and try and keep some of our normal routines.  We have always spent time before bed at night talking. Talking about just about anything and I will miss that, but he is doing something so exciting I want him to go and make the most of it!  I anticipate a few tears tomorrow.

I shared on the 18th the bouquet of flowers my husband sent to me on our 23rd anniversary which came with a card from the florist!

When he arrived home the other day he presented me with a card the he received in his 'husband's kit' from Kim Heggins of Cupcakes, cards and Kim! The husbands kits are something that Joyce MehrbergCathy WebberKim Heggins and I cooked up so that on those special occasions during the year we wouldn't always get a card that we made ourself. LOL

So be on the lookout for cards to appear on our blog posts as we share them throughout the year. Here is the beautiful card I received from James compliments of Kim.

Good luck Ben! (and good luck Tracey!) And Husband kits - what a cool idea! I never get cards from my hubby any more because he can never find anything as nice as I make! Or so he says! lol!

I have a Benjamin too and I am in shock that he is entering HS this year. Where do the years go?! I text and FB with my kids as well so I can be a part of their world and it is wonderful -- good for you for doing so! Hugest of hugs to you tomorrow -- can't imagine what I'll be like when that day comes!! Love the Husband card kit idea too! Brilliant!

Sounds like you've been busy as you've been preparing Ben to head off. I'll be there in a short 5 years -- WOW.

I love the idea of a husband kit. And the flowers are gorgeous.

It's always hard when the kids grow up and fly with their own wings. But I promise, he'll be back. And woohoo for all the ways to keep in touch!! Love those gadgets.
Very cool idea -- 'husbands kit'... totally brilliant! Bev

Tracey, what a proud momma you are! Embrace this time. So glad for social media. When I was away at college we had the land phone and *gasp* snail mail.

And those husband kits rock! What a fabulous idea!

Hugs to you all!

LOL! You girls are the bestest of friends! I have not heard of the husband cards and I think it is so fun and so thoughtful of all of you! Your Kim card from James is stunning!!

All the best to Ben as he starts this new chapter of his long and exciting life! You know, at the end of the day, he will miss you just as much as you miss him. It's fabulous that technology can keep you connected. When our Dan went off to college, email had just started so we were over the moon to have that! It is awesome that now people can actually SEE each other and TALK face-to-face! But, still, it is very bittersweet when they fly out of the nest! Big hugs, Darnell

Tracey, I have to say that reading your post brought tears to my eyes. I am so blessed that Ashleigh choose to go school close to home and I will say that our bank account is happy too! Such sweet photo's of Ben and I agree social media will be a fun way to keep in touch. Wishing you all a safe trip to Sudbury tomorrow.

Forgot to say that I am so happy that James is enjoying his Husband kit, it was so much fun to make. I need to make a "Son" kit for Ben too. I will start working on that one this weekend.

What a heart warming post. Ben was such a cutie pie as a little boy, and now is a handsome young man. You did something (or lots and lots of things) very right. I feel your pain with Ben leaving, as my time is coming all too soon. You were the first of us to benefit from the Husband Kit idea, and I am so happy to see how it is working out. Kim's card is just stunning, probably the nicest card you have ever received from James.

Wow, time really does fly. Mine is starting kindergarten in two days and I am freaked out, so can't imagine being where you are now!

Happy Anniversary belatedly, lovely flowers and lovely card from the husband kit. Fabulous idea by the way!!!!

Oh, Mama!
I know where these feelings are coming from even though I have a few short years before they actually happen for me...
but they are flying fast and I'm just hoping she decides to stay close by for college...
that little peanut was just born...
how can we already be taking ACT's and talking about college's and career's?
Sending you HUGE hugs...
and though I'm also one to rail against social media...but just because it's EVERYWHERE ALL the time...
I'm gonna be thankful for it when my day comes to kiss my baby as she goes off to college.

gulp..gulp… trying to keep the tears at bay. We raise them to be independent but our heart just has a bit of a hard time with this. This is for sure happy sad times. My son was a baby yesterday as well, and now he is a wonderful man.
I am so glad you and Ben can keep in touch with social media.
Beautiful husband card, the girls just told me about this and its a great idea!

My heart goes out to you...I honestly know exactly how you feel...I am two kids down, one to go and I am already feeling like it all went too fast. Love the beautiful card Kim made for your husband to present to you on your anniversary. Tell him he picked out a beautiful card!

Oh, wow, Tracey, what a week and what a rollercoaster of emotions! You must be so proud and yet it is hard to see our children grown up and become independent (yet that's what we want them to do!)! Good luck to Ben...at least there are many ways to keep in touch (not like when I was in college!)! I love the card your husbamd gave you...hope your anniversary was nice, too!

It sounds like you and your son are very close. It's great that you will have the modern technology to be able to communicate. The "husband kit" is such a good idea that you, Joyce, Cathy and Kim all made. Have a safe trip.
