To make the tassels on my graduation caps gold, I covered just the tassels with VersaMark and dipped them into gold embossing powder. To add dimension and to create a barrier between the gold embossed patterned paper and the die cuts I first adhered the caps with foam tape and then I adhered three die cuts together for the sentiment. Adding dimension makes your images and/or sentiments stand out when your background is similar in colour to your elements.
