Floral Birthday

 Happy Friday!

Today I have a card I made the Color Hues Challenge #16 and I made it a birthday card to also submit to Seize the Birthday #212 - Spring Flowers and the pastel yellows for The Flower Challenge #55 - Pretty Pastels. Slowly I am rebuilding my supply of birthday cards. The funny thing is that there is always a pause when I go to make birthday cards. I love making floral cards, but I also like making cute and funny cards too.

What do you do when you think out when you go to make a new birthday card?
Do you make your cards for your recipient, or do you make cards to have on hand?Or do you choose a theme for your card to build of a supply?

Do you like flowers? or critters? a geometric shapes?
So many questions, I am always curious of how other creators, create!

The colors for Color Hues are Yellow and grey. I will be honest, this was a tough challenge for me. I'm not much of a yellow person, but once I got out all my yellow inks and started playing around I really liked the yellow with the grey. Of course yellow isn't the easiest colour to take good pictures of, but many takes later I chose the photos I am sharing here today.

I brought out an old favourite, Altenew Floral Art, I have always loved the whimsy of this set and with a bit of masking and overstamping it always makes a pretty card.

I stamped the main large layered flower in Altenew Silver Stone, Buttercream and Warm Yellow inks. Then I build up the rest of the card front in the upper left of the panel mixing in some of the other flowers and leaves in the set using the same ink colours along with Altenew Lava Rock.

I trimmed down and added the panel to a dark grey mat. A few Stormcloud pearls from Studio Katia were added to create a bit of interest.

Thanks so much for popping in today and have a wonderful weekend.
We are heading into some warmer weather and hopefully the cooler winter weather we has this past week was it's last hurrah!

  1. Wow! Yellow is not my color at all, but this is one of my favorite cards, Tracey! Love the images (another set for my wishlist!) & your card design! I often have someone in mind when I make a birthday card to enter a challenge. Sometimes by the time it should be mailed, I decide to make something else! Pretty much all my cards are foliage of some sort, but I really like geometric designs--just can't seem to make them!

  2. It's a beautiful floral and a wonderful design! Your arrangement of the flowers is lovely. Love the two shades of yellow you chose. Thanks for joining us at Color Hues!

And since you asked - for years I always made each card specifically for the recipient. Then I did a 100 Day Coloring Challenge, so I had a large stash of cards on hand so I often chose from them. I still have a few left, but if I don't see exactly the right one, I make a new one for the person in mind. I have 12 birthdays and anniversaries in May so I'll definitely need to make some new cards.

  3. This is beautiful. I like to make cards ahead of time. However, if it's for someone special then I really think about what I want it to be so that it suits them. Sometimes a critter or person or a lovely floral. There are so many things to choose from these days. [Bunny]

  4. This is beautiful Tracey! I make a variety of birthday cards to have on hand too. Then there are occasions where I make one for a specific person. Sweet P is always one of those specific people ;)

  5. Florals are always welcomed, no matter which birthday one is celebrating!
Your card is gorgeous, Tracey - and you're the second one in less than 24 hours to tempt me with those pearls!

  6. Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! And the sentiment is a cool combo of fonts. Who makes it?

  7. Hi Tracey, your card is lovely! Yellow is one of my favorite colors - especially in the spring/summer! I usually have a bunch of ideas floating around in my head and just make cards - then decide who gets what. I often only make one or two of a design as well. There are a few people for whom I make a specific card - both of them are stampers too! I have a big family, four kids, grandkids - I always need cards and like to have them made ahead of time!

Thank you for sharing your talent!!

  8. Your card is so pretty, Tracey. I always love yellow and grey together, but don't often remember to use them together. I used to make almost exclusively floral cards, and I don't know why I have moved away from them. Your card inspires me to get out my flowers and stamp.

  9. Tracey, your gorgeous card caught my eye on IG and now here on your blog. Loved your post, I most often have cards in my stash. More than I can ever send, but it never fails that for special persons I just need to create a new one anyway.
I love yellow but have a bit of difficulty using gray. Your colors and the fabulous large airy blooms rocked this challenge! Those Altenew inks are in my stash too. I love the way you had subtle changes in the hues.

  10. Like you, yellow is not a go-to for me, but it does look good with grey, doesn't it? And your card is gorgeous. (I'm also glad to hear someone else has trouble photographing it, though...) As to my creative ways? Some people get cards specifically meant for them, but it's always good to have a few on hand as well. Thanks for joining us at Seize the Birthday and Color Hues!

  11. your card is simply gorgeous, everything about it! I love seeing yellow and gray together though I don't use it very often. The stamp set was perfect for this combination. I recently remodeled the kitchen, dining (taking down a wall and the living and entry area of our home. I painted Benjamin Moore (sleigh bells) grey with hint of green. While I was in the process of picking window curtains, the man who did our work said he didn't like a yellow and grey combo--It turned out my daughter and I picked a deep yellow (kind of gold) and it is perfect! As for my style I tend toward formal cards and I'm really trying to go more playful and fun which is very difficult for me--geometrics and florals catch my eye for sure!

  12. I had to come by and give you a proper comment, besides the one on IG. I too don't tend to use that much yellow as that is the smallest pile of scraps I have in my scrap bin. As for your card, I think it is awesome and the bold black leaves really were the perfect addition. Loving that font sentiment too. Thanks for being with us at Color Hues and I hope you have a great week!

  13. I love yellow and this shows of all the warm deliciousness of this colour so beautifully, Tracey ... what a wonderfully soft, dreamy look you created! I usually (though not always) make a card specifically for the recipient ... thinking of them seems to help my creative process! Hugs, Anita :)
