Color Hues Color Challenge #107

Hi there crafty friends!I'm sorry that I am late posting my card for the newest Color Hues Color Challenge! Teammate Jules Peddicord has chosen Orange and Teal as the colors for challenge #107.

The last three days we have been in a state of emergency here due to an ice storm that has done so much damage to our property and to our town and the towns surrounding us. We have had no power since Friday overnight, it just came back on this morning. All the trees and branches had a thick coating of ice on them and we had 24 hours of them snapping and breaking and falling down. The sound was unbelievable, like fireworks! I posted a couple videos on Instagram and FaceBook if you want to hear what we were hearing. It was very scary! We had three trees come down on our property, our beautiful cedar, that it probably close to 100 feet tall, split in half and thankfully missed the house! It has been such a difficult winter! Anyways, we are safe and warm once again and on to today's Color Hues post!

I used the PinkFresh Studio Detailed Leaf foil die and stencils for my card. Although the gold pearl embossed sentiment looks really nice in real life on the teal cardstock it did not photograph well! In fact you can't see it until you look at the close up below.

After stencilling using Catherine Pooler Apricot, Orange Peel and All That Jaxx inks I cut the leaf cluster out with the co-ordinating dies. It was attached to the teal card base with foam dots which gives it lovely dimension.

The sentiment, the big flub, was embossed with Wow Gold Pearl embossing powder. Which as I said above looks lovely in real life not so much in the photo.

If you haven't already visited the Color Hues Color Challenge Blog I hope you stop by and see what my fabulous teammates have created for the challenge.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I can't wait to see what you create!

  2. The gold is a wonderful accent on your CAS card, Tracey. My son in northern Michigan escaped this storm but the neighboring cities were not as lucky. I'm glad you are safe and the power is back.

  4. So happy you are safe and the power has been restored. I am so glad that 100 ft cedar missed the house. That had to be so scary with all the noises and not being able to see what was going on. I know how hard this winter has been and you have been such a trooper through it all. I hope this is the end and Spring is on the horizon. As for your gorgeous leaf...It looks lovely in shades of Orange. I can see the pretty sentiment just fine on the close-up. Wonderful job with the hues. Take care!

  5. I LOVE these leaves, Tracey! The colors are awesome with the gold and it shows beautifully on the teal background! I'm glad your power is back on. We've had a couple bad ice storms in the past and I know just what you're describing. Hearing that crack-thud all night is nerve-wracking a being without power is no fun. I hope the sun comes out and you start to see signs of spring.

  8. Your card is lovely! You've inspired me to pull that image out and put it to use again. The gold embossing and the orange against the dark teal is just stunning! I'm so sorry to hear about the ice storm. We had a similar one in 1991 and were without power for 11 days. I remember laying in bed, listening to the branches and trees coming down, and so afraid one would land on our house. It is one awful sound! Luckily, no one on the street had serious damage to their homes, but it took the guys on the street almost half a day to clear the road so someone could get in or out (it's a dead end street.)

  9. I love the size of this leaf and it looks so pretty in shades of orange. Your snow videos boggled my mind. (It's in the 80s here...wanna come down?) Stay safe my friend.

  10. Crazy weather, indeed, Tracey. So glad that you're on the 'other side' of that storm. Your card is lovely; looks like we channeled one another with our 'style'. Sending hugs your way.

  11. Oh my goodness--I didn't see your posts about the storm, but I'm so glad the tree didn't hit your house! Ice storms are some of the worst! We did have a horrible wind storm when I was a kid and I still remember all the trees and limbs falling. We also didn't have any damage to our house, but no power for over a week. Anyway, you made that one of the best ever color combos with your choice of inks and the gorgeous leaf--love this!
