Color Hues #76

We have a new colour duo starting today at the Color Hues for Color Challenge #76! Teammate Jules Peddicord picked this festive color combination.

The perfect opportunity to do some foiling, but alas I was struggling with getting a decent impression. Tips from the pros (you) are welcome! After three days of not getting a good foiling my foil plate said bye bye. It does not heat up anymore. I checked everything I was able to check but nope, its done. A new plate is on it's way in the mail 😒

I used the Birch Press Designs Viola Plate A cut in black for the cover of my card. I used liquid glue to attach it to a red card panel. Then I used the PinkFresh Studios Thank You So Much Foil Plate to gold foil my sentiment. I cut the foiled image using the co-ordinating die and cut three more--2 white and 1 red. I stacked them up and glued them together using liquid adhesive. I thought the red in the middle added interest to the card. I'm not 100% sure if it did--lol! I gently blended Black Soot Distress Oxide ink along the edges for dramatic effect!

The second card was born from all the other cuts I made while deciding on my card design. I really like the look of the foiling on black and I placed a red Viola cut over the black panel and laid the black foiled sentiment on top.

I used the pieces that provided a decent foiling but I'm pretty sure the Gemini Foil Press hot plate was telling me that is was dying. The more I tried to get a good foiled image the worse they were coming out. I cut three more sentiment clouds using the coordinating die for extra dimension.

  1. Tracey, you've created a dramatic, eye-catching duo of cards that highlight how striking red and gold can be, especially when combined with black. Gorgeous, both! Frustrating when our tools decide to conk out when we're in the midst of creating, right. Glad a new plate is on its way to you...
Hope you're doing well! Sending love and hugs!

  2. I had a sneak peek of some of the elements of these cards and let's just say they turned out so well. I certainly hope you will get better results when your new plate arrives. Such a shame it didn't last longer. I love that you took black ink to the edges of card one as it certainly made for a dramatic effect. Have a great rest of your day!

  4. So sorry your foiling wasn't working, Tracey, but you still turned out two very dramatic cards. Love that fancy sentiment die.

  5. Oh, I like the drama of your red and black combo! These are both marvelous cards, Tracey. I have a love-hate relationship with foiling LOL. If you get any pro tips, pass them along please! Glad you found out what your issue was.

  6. Tracey, both you and Nancy showed how wonderful this color combo is for something other than the holidays, especially combined with black. Both of your cards look fabulous and it reminds me that I need to use that die, or one of those dies all by itself, because I always seem to get stuck on having to use them all together. Thank you for the inspiration with your gorgeous cards!

  7. The dark inking on the first certainly focuses the eye on your fab large sentiment. Isn't technology wonderful, until it breaks of course! Two fab festive makes. :)

  8. I'm sorry you had so much trouble foiling Tracey, but your cards turned out absolutely GORGEOUS!! I love the cover plate die you used...it worked so beautifully with both colors! Sure hope the new foil plate comes soon and that you have better luck with it! I have one foil plate in my stash that just refuses to foil too, even though all my other ones work just fine! Soooooo frustrating!! Truly lovely, lovely cards though my friend, so it's all good! Hugs. :0)

  9. I can surely appreciate how frustrating it must have been to try to get the foiling to work properly. Nonetheless, you've ended up with two beautiful cards! I love the black with the red and gold. The Birch Press Viola Plate is just gorgeous--one I don't think I've ever seen before.
