Color Hues #72 - Hop For Lindsey

Hi there friends! Today, we are hopping in memory of our dear friend and fellow cardmaker, Lindsey Martin-Penny, who sadly passed away last year from a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer. The next stop on the hop is down at the bottom of my post.

I met Lindsey through Emily Leiphart and Lindsey and I became fast friends. I still can't believe that she has been gone for a whole year. It was only a 45 minute drive through the country between Lindsey and I. When you think about this great big card making community it's pretty amazing to find a crafty friend so close!

We both lived north of Toronto in cottage country, so whenever the Toronto Crafty girls got together Lindsey and I would car pool down to the city. It was on those drives that we really got to know one another and got into those deep and often hilarious conversations. We had a few adventures, like being so involved in a conversation we missed our exit. Or the lunch incident when I made a gorgeous Cobb salad and when I turned to put the platter on the counter, the whole salad went on the counter too! I loved her quirky disposition and her kindness, but more I will miss the many things we said we were going to do together but didn't have enough time. I hope you enjoy the hop and spread the word to help others to not have to face this devastating type of cancer.

The infamous salad!

The stamp, stencil and die set that I used for my card today was one that Lindsey talked me from admiring into buying! It was an older set from Pigment Craft Company called Delicate Florals.

Today I'm introducing the colours for the  Color Hues Color Challenge #72! We are posting a day earlier than normal so that we could do the hop. Purple and Red were Lindsey's favourite colours!

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Lindsey’s husband Burke thought it would be a great time to sell off her many craft supplies, with all of the proceeds going towards Lindsey’s Legacy Fund for Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer Research in cooperation with The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

The purpose of this hop will be to honour Lindsey, celebrate her life and all that she loved, as well as help spread the word to raise funds for clear cell ovarian cancer research.  You can help in one of several ways!

1.    Purchase a Flat Rate Mailer stuffed with loads of fabulous craft supplies.  These can only be mailed within Canada and there will be no tax receipts provided with the purchase of these boxes.  A box of craft supplies would make a great gift for yourself, a crafty friend or a child/classroom!  For details about the boxes and how you can go about purchasing one, please email lindseyslegacyfund@rogers.com with the message "Craft Box" or visit Lindsey’s original blog, Bashful Blogging.  Every craft box purchase in September will be entered into a draw and one lucky winner will win a $100 gift certificate to Scrap ‘n Stamp.

2.   During the month of September, shop at Scrap ‘n Stamp using the code LINDSEY10 at checkout.  You will get 10% off your purchase (sale items excluded) and Scrap ‘n’ Stamp will donate 10% of their proceeds to Lindsey’s Legacy Fund.

3.   Any donations over $15 made directly to Lindsey’s Legacy Fund will receive a digital tax receipt.

4.    Repost this hop on your social media and encourage others to share!

Lindsey’s Legacy Hop begins at Emily Leiphart’s blog.  If you get lost along the way, please return to Emily’s blog where she will have the entire hop list.

How to hop:

  • Like and leave a comment at each stop
  • Learn a little bit about Lindsey’s connection to that person
  • Share this post and help us save lives

The next stop on the hop is Glenda  Please be sure to leave a comment at each of the stops where you can learn more about Lindsey’s life, loves and her legacy.

  4. Absolutely gorgeous card Lindsey would have loved! Cancer is taking so many wonderful people away from us. If only we spent money on cures, instead of things that really don't help mankind.

  5. Even though I heard the salad story a few days ago it made me smile again from ear to ear, and for that I am grateful. Lindsey would want us to keep smiling. Your card turned out wonderful and thanks also for helping with the Boxes for Burke and the hop itself. You are and were a terrific friend to her and all that know you now.
